Microneedling - 90 Mins: Clear Do's & Don'ts After Treatment image

The most important rule after my 90-minute microneedling session is simple: leave your skin alone. I create controlled micro-channels and pair them with targeted serums, so the first couple of days are about keeping things clean, calm, and protected. In Ocala, heat and sun can sneak up on you fast, so plan on laying low for 48 to 72 hours if you can.

First 0–24 hours after microneedling: keep it clean, cool, and hands-off

Right after microneedling, redness and sensitivity are normal. Some people also feel warmth or tightness, kind of like a sunburn. That’s your skin doing its job.

My 24-hour non-negotiables: wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry (no rubbing), use only the serum or moisturizer I recommend, and skip anything that stings or “tingles.”

Do this the day of treatment

  • Cleanse with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser if needed. Then pat dry with a clean towel.
  • Keep pillowcases and phone screens clean. Little things matter when your skin is extra open and reactive.
  • Hydrate and keep your environment comfortable. Fans and A/C are your friend in Ocala humidity.

Avoid this the day of treatment

  • No makeup.
  • No exfoliating tools, scrubs, cleansing brushes, or washcloth “polishing.”
  • No hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, or anything that brings on flushing.
  • No workouts that make you sweat hard.

The first 48–72 hours in Ocala: sweat, sun, pools, and dust are the problem

If you take one thing seriously, take this window seriously. Those micro-channels are doing exactly what I want them to do, but your skin is also more likely to get irritated by heat, friction, and anything “dirty” in the air. Ocala’s year-round sun and humid summers can turn a normal errand into a sweaty situation fast.

Plan ahead if you’re in Marion Oaks or Southwest Ocala: skip outdoor chores, barn work, and riding for a couple of days. Dust plus sweat is a common reason people get extra redness or little bumps after microneedling.

  • No swimming or hot tubs. Pools, lakes, and hot tubs are a hard no in the first 48 to 72 hours.
  • No heavy exercise. I generally recommend waiting at least 48 hours before intense workouts, and longer if you stay red or feel hot.
  • Avoid direct sun. Try not to “test” your skin by sitting outside, even for a short time.
  • Don’t pick or peel. If you flake, let it happen naturally.

If you drove in from Silver Springs, Silver Springs Shores, Summerfield, or Belleview, it’s worth bringing a hat for the trip home and keeping your car A/C cool so you don’t get flushed on the ride.

Days 3–7: the “simple skincare week” that protects your microneedling results

Once the first couple of days pass, most people calm down quickly. You might still look a little pink, or feel dry and tight. That’s normal. This is not the week to experiment.

Skip these for the full first week

  • Retinoids and retinol
  • Acids (AHA/BHA), “peel pads, ” or strong vitamin blends that normally tingle
  • Chemical peels
  • Waxing on the treated area

Keep doing this all week

  • Gentle cleanse, no scrubbing.
  • Hydrate morning and night with a plain, non-irritating moisturizer.
  • Start broad-spectrum SPF 30+ once redness settles. In Ocala sun, I’d rather you wear a hat and stay in shade too.

Products I like after microneedling: think bland, hydrating, and fragrance-free

Microneedling improves texture, scarring, and fine lines by triggering your skin’s healing response and supporting collagen. Aftercare is what keeps that response calm instead of inflamed. I focus on product types that protect the barrier, not “active” ingredients that push too hard.

Gentle cleanser: no exfoliating beads, no strong fragrance, no “deep clean” feeling.

Hydrating serum or soothing serum: I stick with what I recommend for your skin, especially in the first few days.

Moisturizer: simple and barrier-supportive. If it burns, it’s not the right one for this week.

SPF 30+: begin as soon as redness settles. Reapply if you’re outside, even briefly.

If you want more ways to keep skin calm between treatments, I also keep general facial care tips in our facials guide for Marion Oaks.

Red flags vs normal after microneedling, plus when I want you to reach out

Normal in the first few days usually looks like redness, mild swelling, tightness, and dryness. Some people feel a little rough texture as the skin sheds. That’s part of the process.

I want you to contact me right away if you notice increasing pain, warmth that doesn’t calm down, spreading redness, pus, or fever. Don’t wait it out.

A quick note about my space: people regularly mention how clean it is and how cared for they feel here. That same energy applies after your microneedling session too. If something feels off, let me know and I’ll help you figure out the next right step.

And if you found me searching for massage near me or spa near me, just know I do both. A lot of my skincare clients also book bodywork, like deep tissue massage when tension is high. I’ll help you time it so your skin and your nervous system both get what they need.
